One of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding is choosing the perfect wedding cake. It's not only a delicious treat but also a stunning centrepiece that adds to the overall ambience of your special day. To ensure that your dream cake is brought to life, it's crucial to ask your venue the right questions. Here are some essential enquiries to make your wedding cake planning process a breeze:

1. Does the venue have preferred suppliers?

Start by finding out if your chosen wedding venue has an in-house bakery or if they work with preferred cake vendors. Having a cake made on-site can be convenient, as it streamlines the coordination process and ensures that the cake will be ready on time for your celebration. Working with preferred suppliers can be fantastic as they are so familiar with the venue already and they know the best positions to set the cake up in.

So at Bloom and Crumb, I am the preferred supplier of:

  • The Andaz London

  • Avington Park

  • Ashridge House

  • 100 Barrington

  • The Barbican

  • Northbrook Park

  • North Mymms

  • London Wildlife Events

2. Are there any restrictions on cake size or design?

Some venues may have limitations on the size or design of the cake due to space constraints or logistical reasons. Ask about any size restrictions and find out if they have any specific guidelines for cake design. This information will help you plan accordingly and ensure your cake fits perfectly into the venue's layout.

3. Can I bring my own cake designer?

If you have a specific cake designer or bakery in mind, it's important to inquire whether the venue allows outside vendors. Some venues may have a list of preferred vendors, while others are open to working with any professional service. It's wise to confirm these details to avoid any surprises later on.

4. Is there a cake-cutting fee?

Many wedding venues impose a cake-cutting fee, especially if they provide the necessary utensils and personnel for the task. Make sure to ask about any additional charges associated with cutting and serving the cake. This way, you can budget accordingly and avoid any unexpected expenses. This would be a great

5. Do you offer any cake display options?

Find out if the venue provides cake stands, pedestals, or any other display items for your wedding cake. Alternatively, you might need to source these items yourself or through your cake designer. Discussing this with your venue early on will ensure that you have a beautiful and cohesive cake display that aligns with your overall wedding theme.

6. can I store the cake on-site if it is a hot day?

Timing is everything when it comes to wedding cake preparation. Ask your venue how far in advance you should order your cake to ensure its timely delivery and perfection. This will be crucial on the day that if it is an extremely hot day, having your cake stored in the fridge would be amazing! There was a wedding cake that I made a couple of years ago and it was 40 degrees on that thankfully the wedding venue let me keep the cake in their fridge, which was SO helpful on the day.

By asking the right questions, you can align your expectations with your venue's policies and ensure that your cake becomes a highlight of your special day. Happy cake planning!
